Her fingers touched his like the vapour laden sea-breeze when they shared cigarettes on the shore. She took his fleeting touch to be a chance to accumulate all the wealth that was never going to be hers. She watched his bare thighs bulging out from the shorts.
He is mad, has a habit of taking out stickers from alcohol and soda bottles and collecting them. One of his friend calls it OCD. He tries to take one off from a Royal stag that they were drinking from. It gets torn. She manages to take off almost half of it. He says he won't keep it unless it’s full. She just looks at him, shouts OKAY and looks away. He opens his valet shows her a complete sticker of Old monk. She says, "WHATEVER!"
They take a stroll on the shore with that friend of his. He says weekends are the worst time to walk by the sea shore. You know looking at the sea of couples you realise you are alone. Reality now overwhelms the alcohol in her, reminds her that he is committed. Her mind flies like a butterfly in a bottomless pit. They take their usual places on the shore. She makes it a point to sit at a distance from him today; blaming it on the meager mud spread on the embankment. The sea is unusually wild. She wonders whether it is melancholic too.
He knows only to make things worse. He starts playing his harmonica. No, she shouts. No actually she only think of it doesn't utter a word. Rather she just gets up and leaves. Goes to a tea stall. May be the tea will bring her back from the dreamy world. She comes back and takes her place. He gets a call and goes a little far to talk. Probably his girlfriend. The two girls, she and his friend, decide to go a little nearer to the sea. She says,
"Its amusing to realise that here is the place after which nothing exists!"
"For me, it is like the ultimate romance. The waves trying to reach the moon!"
"Hey that’s a better way of looking at it. I like."
"I'd rather be here trying to reach the unreachable rather than being there at an unaltered elevated position."
They share a glance. He finds them and comes and sits between them. No one talks for long.
Back at his place, she tries to take out the sticker from his cheap lighter. Doesn't quite manage to get the whole thing though!
